Gornji Stenjevec – Glavica mountain hut
From the Črnomerec bus terminal, take bus line 124 to its final stop in Gornji Stenjevec. Continue along Dubravica street until you enter Medvednica Nature Park.
At one point, the road curves sharply to the right, but you should go straight ahead onto the hiking trail that runs alongside the Dubravica stream. You’ll notice that the air is damp and the trail in part rocky, and for that reason can be slippery. Once you leave the stream behind, turn left and you’ll reach a set of steps that you’ll need to climb. These can be very slippery in wet weather, so caution is advised. After the steps, the trail gradually ascends, but this section isn’t too steep. Before long, you’ll arrive at the Veternica cave, and just beyond there’s another set of steps. After that, you’ll reach a junction with trail no. 45, which comes in from the left. Keep heading right and uphill, and after a few switchbacks, you’ll reach the base of Glavica mountain hut. Climb the concrete stairs to reach the terrace of the hut.
This trail becomes very muddy in rainy weather. It’s short, but has lots of stairs. At the beginning, the stairs can be quite slippery but the upper part of the trail, after the cave, is more passable. Due to its length and elevation gain, the trail is considered moderately difficult. Many families with children visit Veternica, so for a visit to the cave, descending from the Glavica hut is a better option.
