Šestinski Lagvić – Kraljičin Zdenac – Miroslavec (Geological Educational Trail)
From the Mihaljevac tram stop, take bus line 102 for five stops to the roundabout near the Šestine church, and walk toward the church.
Continue across Šestine square and onto the Prilaz Kraljičinu Zdencu street. Walk along the roadside to the Šestinski Lagvić restaurant, then continue uphill along Sljemenska Cesta road until you reach the start of hiking trail no. 13. You'll be walking against traffic, so be cautious of oncoming vehicles. On the left side is the entrance to hiking trail no. 12.
Almost 150 years old, the Miroslavec is one of the oldest trails on Medvednica. It is named after Count Miroslav Kulmer, president of the Croatian Mountaineering Society at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, it's an easy educational trail featuring geological panels, suitable even for families with young children. The trail is 2780 metres long and can be completed in about 50 minutes at a relaxed pace. The first part is more open, running along the left side of the Kraljevec stream. Early on, you'll pass a small open meadow with benches and a few exercise stations. After 500 metres, the trail gently enters the forest and overcomes a minor elevation gain of just 10 metres. You'll soon reach the first small bridge, which crosses the Kraljevec stream and leads you along the left bank. This area is now deep within a deciduous forest, mostly beech trees. The path remains mostly flat and is very pleasant to walk, especially in the summer months.
Soon you’ll have passed more than half the trail and reach a set of stairs that climb 40 metres in elevation. This area is known as Mačkova Pećina (Cat’s Cave), although it’s not an actual cave but rather a rocky section of the trail. In older times, exposed rocky areas were often referred to as "pećina" (cave), and wild cats once inhabited this region.
After this, the trail is gentle and flat again all the way to the picnic area at Kraljičin Zdenac. This part is especially scenic, with many small bridges. The left bank of the Kraljevec stream becomes quite steep here, requiring a few crossings. Just before reaching the Kraljičin Zdenac picnic site, there is a junction. A green sign leads over a bridge to a road descending from Medvedgrad, but this is not a recommended route, as it’s not a marked hiking trail. If you're looking to continue toward Medvedgrad, better options are from Kraljičin Zdenac via trail no. 105 or no. 12. Seven minutes after this junction, you’ll arrive at the Kraljičin Zdenac picnic site, where trail no. 13 (Miroslavec) ends.
Although the spring at Kraljičin Zdenac is no longer in use, if you continue 100 metres straight along trail no. 106 after the end of trail no. 13, you’ll reach another trail junction. Turn left downhill for just 10 metres to reach Sljemenska Cesta road, then follow the road uphill briefly to a small bridge on the left. Just beyond the bridge is the catering facility Lugareva Kuća (Forester’s House), where you can take a break and enjoy refreshments.
