Chapel of Croatian Martyrs

Set in a quiet meadow beneath the peak of Rog (749 m), near the Lipa mountain hut, stands the Chapel of Croatian Martyrs – a small, unassuming memorial dedicated to those who have given their lives for Croatia throughout history.

You’ll find it along trail no. 110, which is part of the long route that stretches from the Zagreb Cathedral across the summit of Medvednica all the way to the pilgrimage site of Marija Bistrica. Construction of the chapel began in 1994, inspired by members of the Lipa mountaineering club, and it was completed in 2000, following the design by architect Želimir Dujmović.

True to its purpose, the chapel is simple and humble. Built from stone blocks with a wooden roof covered in tiles, its stained-glass windows by artist Ivan Kujundžić gently let light into the space, enhancing the serene atmosphere.

If you’re passing by, take a moment to pause. Beneath the trees and open sky, the chapel offers a peaceful space for quiet reflection, rest and remembrance.
