Sljeme Cable Car

The very first cable car on Medvednica opened in 1963, offering a fast and exciting way for visitors to get from Gračani to the top of Sljeme.

It was a real novelty at the time and at 4,017 metres in length, it was among the longest in Europe. The lower station sat at 330 metres above sea level, while the upper one reached 1000 metres. After decades of service and a few mechanical issues along the way, the old cable car officially stopped running in 2007.

But love for Medvednica never faded. In 2022, a new state-of-the-art cable car opened, bringing a fresh experience to the mountain. The new route starts from the lower station at 267 metres and climbs to the summit at 1030 metres. Spanning 5000 metres and covering an elevation difference of 754 metres, the ride takes less than 20 minutes – just enough time to soak in the stunning views of Zagreb and its surroundings. The system features 84 gondolas, each with 10 seats and ski racks, making it perfect for both winter sports and year-round visits. Flexible benches inside each cabin allow for the transport of persons with disabilities or bicycles. The cable car is also adapted for the transport of pets, who are welcome in the gondolas.

The lower station is conveniently located at the final stop of tram line 15, Dolje, with nearby access to bus lines 140, 227 and 233. If you’re coming by car, there’s a spacious underground garage on site, making a trip to Sljeme simple and stress-free.
