Mala Hunjka Lodge (875 m)

Set along the eastern ridge of Medvednica, about an hour and twenty minutes’ walk from the summit, Hunjka is a quiet, green haven with an open meadow and views that stretch for miles.

Despite being close to the road connecting Zagreb to Stubičke Toplice, Hunjka still feels like a mountain hideaway. While you can reach it by car via the Sljeme road, walking along the ridge is where the real magic happens.

At the heart of a wide sunny clearing stands the Mala Hunjka forester’s lodge – the perfect spot to unwind. Wooden benches invite you to sit down and soak up the panoramic view over Zagorje, with the Slovenian Alps visible on clear days. It’s a great place for families too, with plenty of space for children to run around, play and explore. In wintertime, the meadow transforms into a lively sledging slope – so don’t forget to bring your sledge if you're visiting during the colder months.

The cosy restaurant serves up hearty, home-style meals – nothing fancy but really tasty, especially after a walk or a few sledging runs down the hill. Their apple, cheese and forest fruit strudels are already the stuff of legend, and the bučnica is a crowd pleaser as well.

There’s history here, too. This was once the site of a forest lodge owned by the Rauch family. The name "Hunjka" comes from the local dialect word humak, meaning “small hill,” which used to mark the boundary between three family estates. The hill may be gone, but the spirit of the past lingers in this quiet little corner of the mountain.

Whether you're here for some snowy fun, a day trip in summertime or simply a break from the hustle and bustle of city life – Hunjka is always ready to greet you with a warm welcome.
